CAIR Action Alert: Register to Vote in Maryland’s 2018 Primary Elections by June 5th Deadline

(BALTIMORE, MD, 5/29/18) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is calling on all Marylanders eligible to vote in the state’s upcoming 2018 mid-term elections to register ahead of the upcoming voter registration deadline on June 5 (9 p.m.). 

Maryland has closed primaries, so voters must be registered as Democrats or Republicans in order to vote in the upcoming primary election on June 26.

NOTE: Voters not affiliated with either of these two parties will not be allowed to vote in the primary election. The deadline to update party affiliations is also June 5. 

To change or update your party affiliation in order to vote in the primary election: 

  1. Visit: https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration/InstructionsStep1or
  2. Print off a voter registration application, select the option to change party, and mail the application to your local board of elections listed on its second page. (Note: the application must be postmarked no later than June 5th in order for it to be processed. Voters are encouraged to use the online process.)

Important Dates:

June 5: Last day to register to vote in the Maryland Primary Election, or update your party affiliation to Democrat or Republican in order to cast your ballot

June 14 – 21: Early Voting 

June 26: Primary Election 

November 6: General Election

Early voting begins June 14th and lasts through June 21st at select polling locations. Voters are encouraged to take advantage of this period to avoid long lines while casting their ballots.
